The General Education Program reflects the commitment of the university and the faculty to a set of learning objectives and experiences that serve as a foundation for academic achievement and prepare students to participate effectively in a competitive global economy and to contribute as citizens in a diverse and engaged democracy. General Education presents a unique and powerful opportunity to develop the competencies necessary for long-term academic success.

Wayne State's General Education curriculum includes a minimum of 35 credits of courses, spread across three categories:

  • Natural Scientific Inquiry (NSI) 7 cr
  • Global Learning (GL) 3 cr
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) 3 cr
  • Civic Literacy (CIV) 3cr
• Wayne Experience Requirement (WE) 1 cr

Instructors who wish to have their course included in the General Education Program should submit a General Education Course Proposal.
