Associate Vice President for Student Auxiliary Services

Timothy Michael

Tim Michael is Associate Vice President for Student Auxiliary Services and Chief Housing Officer.  In this role he directly supports the success of the Wayne State community by leading a team that provides a variety of services and developmental environments and experiences that contribute to a high-quality, convenient and educational life on campus.  Tim oversees the strategic work and services provided by Housing & Residential Life, the Student Center, McGregor Memorial Conference Center, WSU Dining & Catering Services, and the WSU Bookstore.  He also serves as the university account manager for the new Corvias housing partnership, a novel implementation of a public-private partnership implemented in December 2017 that will address the growing demand for campus housing and create a sustainable model for WSU housing into the future.

Tim came to Wayne State in 2008 as director of housing & dining in the Provost division, assumed responsibility for the student center in 2010, and then moved to Business & Finance to became associate vice president of business and auxiliary operations in 2012, also overseeing parking and transportation, one card services, mail & receiving services, and leasing and retail services.  In 2017 he rejoined the Provost organization to further the seamless integration and delivery of student-facing services with the many other student success initiatives in the Provost Division.
A first-generation college student from a farming and steel-working family in Western Pennsylvania, Tim received his B.A. in political science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and his M.Ed. in higher education administration from the University of Vermont.  He has worked at both public and private, large and small colleges and universities over a 30+ year career including Michigan State University, Albion College, Ithaca College, and Carnegie Mellon University before coming to WSU.  Tim’s interests include the use of best practices in higher education, student development across the college experience, and supporting students from all walks of life to find success at WSU. He also loves all things soccer and is a lifetime “black and gold” fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.
