Biography

Welcome and thanks for stopping by! My name is Sara Kacin. I am Assistant Provost for Faculty Development & Faculty Success and Director of the Office for Teaching and Learning (OTL).
In the Assistant Provost role, I am responsible for professional and career development, leadership development, and mentoring initiatives to support faculty and academic staff. I specifically lead efforts on campus around:

  • new faculty and new chair orientations
  • faculty performance evaluation processes and outcomes
  • faculty awards and award nominations
  • fostering recognition of faculty internally, nationally, and internationally for teaching, scholarship and community outreach.

You can find more information about monthly programming and opportunities by checking out the OTL website.

As Director of the OTL, I oversee programming and learning experiences for faculty and graduate students. This includes:

  • support for developing foundational teaching skills
  • exploring new teaching initiatives
  • educational and classroom technologies
  • learning experiences for all learning environments.

We’d love for you to join us in our discussions on campus about teaching and learning. Please take a look at our upcoming opportunities.

Prior to this appointment, I served as assistant, associate and then interim director at the OTL. And prior to joining higher education I worked in human resources within the automotive industry.

I teach graduate courses at Wayne State University when I can, and I continue to serve as an adjunct assistant professor in the WSU College of Education. I’ve also taught undergraduate courses in traditional, hybrid and online environments at Oakland University and Baker College.
