Academic Advising

The advising provided by faculty and by professional academic advisers is critical to student success. Advising includes orienting a student to an institution's mission, culture and expectations, promoting an understanding of the meaning and value of the curriculum, supporting the selection of academic programs and courses, encouraging the development of life and career goals, and teaching and supporting the student in navigating the campus/community resources, policies, and procedures.

Advising is a first-order component of the student's educational experience -- one that is critical to student success. In recent years, the university has expanded the number of academic advisors and developed an advisor training academy to provide professional development to academic advisors. Students can schedule an advising appointment at stars.wayne.edu. Students can do academic planning with CHOMP and DegreeWorks tool in consultation with their advisors.
