Message from the president

As Detroit's research university, Wayne State is committed to working toward health equity in the city and beyond. Wayne Med-Direct helps us achieve that goal by educating a rising generation of leaders in medicine.

Wayne Med-Direct recruits the very best high school students who have a passion for addressing health disparities. This trailblazing program provides these remarkable young scholars with opportunities to participate in cutting-edge research, hands-on clinical training, seminars and more.

Wayne Med-Direct affords young scholars a highly supported pathway to the health care workforce. Most importantly, it challenges them to lead the charge toward a healthier, more equitable future.

My aspirations for addressing health disparities is to serve as an advocate for my community, here and abroad, in changing the culture around health and the way we value and engage in activities that surround our health. Through education, interpersonal connection, and policy, I want to improve the health outcomes of those disproportionately disadvantaged when it comes to health.                                                                                                                                                -Cedric Mutebi-Wayne Med-Direct cohort 2016
