New admission information for Fall 2023

Binding Early Decision only

Wayne Med-Direct is a Binding Early Decision program and does not admit students during the regular undergraduate admission timeline of WSU.

What does Binding Early Decision mean?

This means if you are accepted to Wayne Med-Direct:

  • You commit to attending Wayne State University and participating in Wayne Med-Direct
  • You must withdraw any applications you may have submitted to other schools for regular admission
  • You must pay the enrollment deposit and sign and return the program contract by the date specified in the acceptance letter

If you apply to Wayne Med-Direct, you may not apply to Binding Early Decision programs at any other school. By applying to Wayne Med-Direct, you indicate that the only Binding Early Decision application you intend to file is for Wayne Med-Direct.

Candidates may apply to other regular admission or non-binding early action programs.

Candidates will read and confirm understanding of the binding nature of the commitment before starting the Wayne Med-Direct application in the Wayne State application system.

The decision to apply to a Binding Early Decision program is an important one and should only be made after careful consideration of many factors. The decision to apply to Wayne Med-Direct should be driven by a true passion to attend Wayne State University and become a prestigious Wayne Med-Direct scholar.

Candidates must commit to pursuing both bachelor's and medical degrees at Wayne State University over the next eight years; you must be driven by the passion to learn about and help reduce health disparities in our communities as future leaders in the medical community. The application must only be submitted with the certainty that should you be admitted to Wayne Med-Direct, you will attend.

Frequently asked questions

  • If I am not admitted to Wayne Med-Direct, is my admission to Wayne State University binding?

The binding commitment only applies to Wayne Med-Direct, not for admission to Wayne State University. If you are not accepted to Wayne Med-Direct but are offered admission to Wayne State University you are not bound to attend Wayne State and welcome to consider your other college options.

  • What happens if I am accepted to Wayne Med-Direct and then realize that I won't be able to attend?

Being unable to attend is different from deciding not to attend to Wayne Med-Direct. Unable means there has been a significant change in your situation that affects either your ability to pay for college or to be physically present on campus for studies. Because Wayne Med-Direct provides you with a financial aid package, that includes your tuition, fees, and housing expenses, not being able to pay for college would not be a valid reason to cancel the binding agreement. Acceptable reasons for being unable to attend may include a serious health issue or an accident that you may have encountered since the time of applying that significantly affects your physical and learning capabilities. A Binding Early Decision is a serious commitment that we advise you to make only after careful consideration of all your options, as every effort must be made to adhere to the commitment you agreed to when you applied.

  • Can I apply to both Wayne Med-Direct and other early decision programs like QuestBridge, which are for disadvantaged students?

If you apply to Wayne Med-Direct, you may not apply to any other Binding Early Decision program. By applying to Wayne Med-Direct, you indicate that the only Binding Early Decision application you intend to file is for Wayne Med-Direct. Given the unique and substantial financial support offered through Wayne Med-Direct, students who are committed to pursuing a career in medicine must understand the value of this program and the significant investment made by the university on these students when making the choice between programs. Wayne Med-Direct should be viewed as a unique opportunity for students who want to pursue a career in medicine, rather than viewed as a competition with other early decision programs.

  • What other programs are available at Wayne State to candidates who are not accepted to Wayne Med-Direct?

Applicants who are not accepted to Wayne Med-Direct are welcome and eligible to apply to the Irvin D. Reid Honors College and the ReBUILD Detroit program.
