Leadership training across the university

In addition to the training and workshops offered by the Office of Faculty Affairs and Development, a variety of leadership programs are available across the university. Please contact our office if you know of a program that is not listed below.

  • Education and training from the Office of Inclusive Excellence – Covering themes of inclusion, culture, and leadership, open to all or tailored for departments/offices.
  • Custom workshops led by Christine Jackson, Chair, Department of Management & Information Systems – Developing leadership competencies like authenticity, values, building trust, fairness in the workplace, difficult conversations, and conflict resolution, managing and facilitating meetings, emotional intelligence, body language, managing change, delegation, inclusion, belongingness, engagement, and team effectiveness, for academic and non-academic aspiring and current leaders or entire units/departments/leadership teams within the institution.
  • Cornerstone Learning – Offered by Human Resources Organization & Employee Development, with access to over 40,000 enhanced eLearning resources to achieve their professional and career development goals. 
  • Mental Health First Aid for Higher Education from Shantalea Johns Ed, D. LMSW – Custom sessions for departments, by request, the training prepares campus leaders to address mental health and substance use challenges.
  • Wayne State University School of Social Work Office of Continuing Education – Online and live continuing education courses offered throughout the year for healthcare professionals and program leaders on topics like cultural humility, cultural competence, data use and exploration, data visualization techniques, effective not-for-profit leadership, wellness, and self-care.
