Children's Online Privacy Protection Act

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act was passed by Congress several years ago. As of July 1 of this year, new rules have gone into effect that apply to Wayne State (http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2012/12/coppa.shtm, http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2013/07/coppa.shtm).

In short, any website that is directed to children below 13 years of age must follow a number of specific guidelines involving parental consent, proper management of data collected (including cookies, IP addresses and similar, automatically collected data).

If your department maintains a site that is directed to children as defined above, please contact Geoff Nathan (geoffnathan@wayne.edu) (C&IT) and Tom Cavalier (df0444@wayne.edu) (OGC) with the URL, as soon as possible.
