Class Cancellation Deadlines for Spring/Summer 2015

Although we have not yet completed the Winter Term, registration is well underway for the Spring/Summer Term. Please ensure that written notifications of class cancellations for GEOC-represented GTAs and UPTF-represented Part-Time Faculty are completed by the deadlines stated below. Failure to provide timely, written notification of class cancellations will, under the two bargaining units' contracts, result in the hiring unit being required to pay severance (GEOC) or class cancellation (UPTF). In addition, the notification requirements are different for the two groups.

For GEOC-represented GTAs with Spring, Spring/Summer, or Summer teaching appointments, the following class cancellation deadlines apply.

Spring and Spring/Summer: First Class Day is Monday, May 11; written notification of class cancellations must occur on or before 5pm on Monday, April 27.

Summer: First Class Day is Wednesday, July 1; written notification of class cancellations must occur on or before 5pm on Wednesday, June 17.

For GEOC-represented GTAs, the severance payment is equal to two weeks' salary for the cancelled course.

For UPTF-represented Part-Time Faculty with Spring, Spring/Summer, or Summer teaching appointments, the following class cancellation deadlines apply.

Spring and Spring/Summer: First Class Day is Monday, May 11; written notification of class cancellations must occur on or before 5pm on Monday, May 4.

Summer: First Class Day is Wednesday, July 1; written notification of class cancellations must occur on or before 5pm on Wednesday, June 24.

For UPTF-represented Part-Time Faculty, the severance payment is 15% of the salary for the cancelled course for those in PTF2 or PTF3 classifications; no severance is due for those in the PTF1 classification. If a class is cancelled on or after the First Class Day, all UPTF-represented Part-Time Faculty are due a severance payment of 25% of the salary for the cancelled course.

Date- and time-stamped email sent to a WSU AccessID email account are sufficient to meet the requirement for written notification. Please ensure that all administrative and support staff involved in managing Spring/Summer enrollments and courses are aware of, and observe, the deadlines stated above. If you have questions, feel free to contact me.

Thank you for your cooperation.
