Biography

Dr. Charles Cotton III, a native Michigander, is vice provost for enrollment management at Wayne State University. He leads the strategic direction for university-wide enrollment efforts to attract and retain a diverse student body. Dr. Cotton works in close collaboration with Wayne State’s schools and colleges to implement evidence-based recruitment strategies. He has direct oversight of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Office of Student Financial Aid, Office of New Student Orientation and the Student Service Center.

Prior to joining Wayne State University, Dr. Cotton led the enrollment efforts for several different institutions across the Midwest, and helped these schools achieve record enrollment, welcome diverse and competitive incoming classes, and reduce barriers to academic access. He has gained a wealth of experiences during his time at R1 and R2 institutions, as well as at private liberal arts colleges and universities.

Dr. Cotton earned both his doctorate in educational leadership and master of arts in student affairs administration at Michigan State University. He obtained a bachelor of arts in African American Studies from Coe College.
