Room/Board and Meal Plans (undergraduate years)

Wayne Med-Direct Undergraduate Scholarship offers room and board to Wayne Med-Direct students in university housing for the fall, winter, spring and summer semesters during the four years of their undergraduate term. All Wayne Med-Direct students must live in university housing during their undergraduate term and there is no option to commute. All housing and meal plan options will not be available to students to choose from.

Fall and Winter housing options are:  

  • First Year Students will be assigned a 4- or 6-person suite in Chatsworth Suites on the Irvin D. Reid Honors College LLC floor by the WMD program coordinator by the WMD Program Coordinator.

  • Second Year Students will be able to self-select either a D or F Suite in Towers Residential Suites.

    • Students can choose the room/floor they wish to reside, as well as the roommates they choose to live with. Roommates are not required to be in the WMD program at this stage. All students will be expected to adhere to the WSU Housing room selection timelines and processes. 

  • Third and Fourth Year Students can choose to live in either a D or F Suite in Tower Residential Suites or Anthony Wayne Drive Apartments (AWD). The following conditions apply:  

    • WMD housing scholarship will only cover the amount of a D/F Suite in Towers Residential Suites. If the student chooses to live in AWD, the student is responsible for covering the difference in cost. 

      • Students are responsible for adhering to the WSU payment schedule for any account balance.

    • Students can choose the room/floor they wish to reside, as well as the roommates they choose to live with. Roommates are not required to be in the WMD program at this stage. All students will be expected to adhere to the WSU Housing room selection timelines and processes. 

Spring/Summer housing options are: 

  • All students will be assigned to available housing spaces on campus by the WMD Program Coordinator 

    • If a student choose to move into a different space without prior WMD Program Coordinator approval, the student may be responsible for any incurred fees. 

    • Students are responsible for adhering to the WSU payment schedule for any account balance.

Fall and Winter meal plan options are: 

First-Year Students can choose: 

  • Warrior Pass 200 (Unlimited + $150 Warrior Dollars/sem + $50 One Card Dollars/sem) 

  • Weekly 15 + $400 (Fifteen Swipes/wk + $300 Warrior Dollars/sem + $100 One Card Dollars/sem) 

  • Block 175 + $550 (175 Swipes/sem+ $425 Warrior Dollars/sem + $125 One Card Dollars/sem) 

Second, Third, and Fourth year students can choose: 

  • Warrior Pass 200 (Unlimited + $150 Warrior Dollars/sem + $50 One Card Dollars/sem) 

  • Weekly 15 + $400 (Fifteen Swipes/wk + $300 Warrior Dollars/sem + $100 One Card Dollars/sem) 

  • Block 175 + $550 (175 Swipes/sem+ $425 Warrior Dollars/sem + $125 One Card Dollars/sem) 

  • Block 110 + $550 (110 Swipes/sem+ $425 Warrior Dollars/sem + $125 One Card Dollars/sem) 

Spring/Summer meal plan options: 

  • All students will receive an applicable meal plan which offers a combination of Warrior Dollars and meal swipes 

NOTE: Students living in AWD Apartments must select a meal plan (options that are covered by your scholarship are listed above) here. Select "Furnished & Unfurnished Apartment Residents," and make your selection. This "purchase" will be applied to your student account and covered by your scholarship.

Academic plans (undergraduate years)

Locked academic plans (also referred to as locked plans of work)

  • Students must create a "locked" academic plan in Degree Works in consultation with their academic advisors (major, minor, pre-med and Honors) by the end of the first semester in the program.
  • An academic plan consists of coursework taken in all semesters to fulfill degree requirements and pre-med requirements. An academic plan can be locked and unlocked to make changes, ONLY by academic advisors. DegreeWorks is the university's degree progress tracking tool available to all students via Academica. 
  • Students must follow the locked plan when registering for classes and not following the locked plan can jeopardize their scholarship eligibility as stated in the Wayne Med-Direct contract. 
  • Students who may consider changing their academic plan (i.e. changing or adding a class, changing or adding a minor, etc.) should consult an academic advisor to discuss those changes.
  • Any changes to the locked academic plan must be approved and updated in the locked plan by an academic advisor.
    • Any changes to a locked plan of work in a student's current semester can only be made during the 1st week of classes.
    • Any changes to a locked plan of work for a subsequent semester must be approved two weeks prior to the first day or pre-priority registration. 
    • Any changes that impact other future semesters, students should work to gain approval as soon as they become aware of or consider the change.
  • All locked plans of work will consist of 4 years of undergraduate studies.

Transfer credits

  • Students are welcome to transfer any applicable credits (AP/IB/CLEP/dual enrollment college credits while in high school) taken prior to their first semester at Wayne State University. All transfer credits must be sent to Wayne State University by the end of the fall semester of Year 1 so that they can be taken into account when creating the locked academic plan.   • Students are expected to complete all coursework at Wayne State University.

Credit limit rules 

  • Students must be enrolled as full-time students (minimum of 12 credits) in both Fall and Winter semesters.
    • In order to be eligible for the WMD housing scholarship in the Spring/Summer semesters, students must be enrolled at least part-time students (minimum of 6 credits).
  • Students will not be approved to register for more than 18 credits in any semester of the WMD program.
  • Students will not register for more than 6 credits OR 2 classes (INCLUDING MLC 1100, WMD Summer Research), whichever of the 2 is greater in the Spring/Summer semesters following their first AND second academic years in the program. A course that has a separate lecture and lab will be considered one course for this purpose. 

Course registration timeline 

  • Students must register for any semester's courses by the end of the first week of priority registration for that semester. The dates for priority registration can be found on the academic and registration calendar: https://wayne.edu/registrar/registration/calendar
  • If a student does not complete their initial registration within the ‘priority registration’ period, according to the WSU Academic Calendar, the student will be responsible for any late fees incurred.

Pre-medicine coursework

Wayne Med-Direct students are required to follow and complete the pre-medicine curriculum during their undergraduate years. WSU SOM requires applicants to complete pre-med coursework in preparation for the high academic caliber of medical school. Also the MCAT covers a broad range of content that are taught in the pre-med curriculum. Pre-medicine curriculum do not constitute a major however students can always plan to take them in correlation with a minor that includes the majority of coursework recommended as the pre-medicine curriculum.
